Quarried Aggregates

Aggregate is the term used for blasted rock from a quarry that is crushed and screened to produce smaller sized material suitable for further processing within the construction industry such as fills, ready mixed concrete and coated roadstone. It can range from 150mm single size down to dust.

Sub Bases
Mot Type 1 Sub Base

Typical use for finished surface prior to blacktop or concrete application, should be non frost susceptible and generally will be a 40 mm evenly graded hard material allowing quarried or recycled constituents.

Available in limestone and granite

Type 1 sub base
Type 2 sub base Porous sub base
Starter & Capping Layers

6F2/6F5 Capping Layer
Typical use for capping sub formation prior to laying Mot type 1 sub base normally to a depth of 150 mm dependant on ground conditions. Constituent materials can be quarried or recycled aggregates generally a 100mm to dust well graded.

6F1/6F4 Capping Layer
Same application as 6F2 but to a finer grading generally being 50mm to dust evenly graded. Constituent materials can be quarried or recycled.

Type 6C Starter Layer
Typical use for a 6C would be for use in wet or unstable ground conditions prior to capping with 6F2 generally a quarried material such as hard limestone or granite without fines content, grading of this material is most commonly 100mm to 40 mm clean.

Crusher Run & Scalpings

Quarry Scalpings / Granular Fill
Typical use for these materials are for backfill to structures or general making up of levels on site. Grading for these materials is generally 40mm to dust, due to the nature of their production the quality of these materials can be variable subject to source.

Clean Stone Gabion & Pitching

6G Gabion – Typical use is for the filling of gabion baskets used in retaining walls and river protection, the material used must be hard and non frost susceptible, gradings normally between 100mm and 200mm.

Available in Limestone or Granite

Filter Media & Pipe Beddings

Typical use is for drainage works, backfill to crib walls and central reservation works on highways. Filter media can be produced from a number of materials subject to their strength and porosity including granite, limestone, gravels and recycled aggregates.

The gradings are site specific and will generally range from 6mm single size through to 40mm single size with graded sizes between them.

Available in Hardstone & Gravel

Washed Concreting / Sharp Sand
Typical use for production of concrete and for a bedding layer to block paviors and slabs.

Building Sand
Typical use is for the production of mortar for brick and block work, sand can be washed or dry screened usually subject to the brick layers preference with texture and colour.

Blinding Materials

Typical use is for blinding over the surface of a hardcore prior to the laying of concrete to fill any interstice.

Also used to bed drainage pipes as a protection layer. Other sand fill such as rock sand is used for mass fill and embankment fills due to its excellent compaction qualities.
