Smoking Ban Benefits Local Charity
When the Summer House at Parkstone Group’s Headquarters in Castle Bromwich was to become obsolete due to the introduction of the Smoking Ban, Managing Director, John Love decided to organise a charity auction for the Summer House in aid of Cancer Research with all proceeds going to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.
Staff were invited to bid for the Summer House and Quantity Surveyor, Ian Dunn made the successful bid. The Summer House now takes pride of place in his family garden in Worcester. As part of the bid Parkstone Group transported and erected the Summer House in Ian’s garden.
Gavin Petrie, Corporate Fund Raiser for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice was delighted to accept the cheque from Ian Dunn saying, “this is a great example of a city company supporting a local charity. It shows an understanding for corporate social responsibility not only from the Board but from the company as a whole.”
Parkstone Group introduced the ‘No Smoking’ ban one month early in order to allow its employees and customers to become accustomed to the new rules and regulations.
John Love, Managing Director says, “the company auction of the Summer House helped to highlight not only the new regulations but also the needs of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice. We have had a very positive response from all our employees and I’m sure our relationship with St Mary’s and other local charities will continue.”
