No Stopping Shopping at Sainbury
Parkstone have recently been working for Bowmer and Kirkland on a large contract at the Sainsbury’s store in Macclesfield which consists of the resurfacing and re-marking of the existing car parks and access road, two areas of extension to the existing store trading floor, reconfiguring the internals of the store to include new bakery, meat and fish preparation and customer café and toilets.
Whilst this may seem a fairly straight forward job there is the added twist that the store is still open and trading whilst the works go ahead. Therefore more thought has to go into the logistics to ensure the construction process can still continue effectively without too much disruption to customers and delivery vehicles.
Detailed planning of the external and store extension works is of great importance to Sainbury to ensure to the smooth daily running, customer comfort and health and safety aspects of the project are covered.
Internally a great deal of the works goes on overnight with the sales floor being left operational at the end of each shift for day time trading.
Despite the obvious logistical obstacles the project is expected to be completed on time for the 5th December 2008 finishing date to allow Parkstone to be offsite and leave the store completed for the Christmas trading period.
Mark Stokes, Project Manager says, ‘although there have been changes we are confident we will achieve the completion date. It is critical to Sainsbury’s that we meet Christmas deadlines and failure to do so is not an option. Back to news index |
